Kebbi State: Fulani Herders Kill 2 Farmers, Injure 8 as Cattles Destroy Farmlands

Two farmers in an unfortunate incident in Kebbi State lost their lives, and eight others sustained injuries following farmland invasion by Fulani cattle herders. The conflict erupted when farmers discovered cattle grazing on their farmlands on Saturday morning, leading to a tragic confrontation.

Mohammed Lawal, the Chairman of Suru Local Government Council, revealed the grim details of the crisis. Responding to the situation, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris expressed his condolences during a visit to the affected areas, Suru and Koko/Besse Local Government Areas. Governor Idris described the ongoing tensions between Fulani herders and farmers as regrettable.

As a gesture of support, Governor Idris donated N13 million to the families of the deceased and those injured during the conflict. Additionally, he took proactive measures by establishing a reconciliation committee. This committee comprises key figures such as the Commissioner of Police, the Head of the Department of State Service (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), District Heads, members of the State House of Assembly, and other relevant stakeholders in the affected area.

As farmlands across Nigeria continue to get invaded criminally by Fulani herders, observers are asking why the lawlessness from invading herders persist and who will save helpless Nigerian indigenous farmers from the terrorists?
