Nigerian Footballers Shine Abroad, Striking Goals in Various Leagues

In a riveting display of talent on Monday, November 27, 2023, several Nigerian footballers showcased their prowess on foreign soil. Alex Iwobi, playing for Fulham, marked his debut Premier League goal for the team, securing a 3-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Craven Cottage.

Former Chelsea midfielder Willian sealed the win with two second-half penalties. Notably, Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey played the full match for Fulham.

Meanwhile, in the AFC Cup, teenage forward Christopher John made a significant impact by scoring the sole goal for Iraq’s Al Zawra’a in a crucial 1-1 draw against Kuwait’s Al Arabi. Super Eagles attacker Anayo Iwuala represented Al Arabi, but despite his efforts, they couldn’t secure a win.

The draw keeps Al Zawra’a in the second position in Group C, with eight points after five games.

At the Superbet Arena-Giulești in București, Romania, Funsho Bamgboye impressed despite Rapid Bucureşti suffering a tough 2-3 home loss to Universitatea Cluj. Bamgboye played a crucial role in Rapid Bucureşti’s second goal with an assist in the 24th minute.

In Turkey, the prolific Paul Onuachu continued his goal-scoring spree, netting his fourth goal in three games for Trabzonsopor. The on-loan Southampton striker showcased his prowess in an exhilarating 3-3 draw against Sivasspor.

With seven goals in nine Super Lig games since his arrival from England in the summer, Onuachu has become a key figure for his team.

In the 1 Lig, Olanrewaju Kayode maintained his impressive goal-scoring form for Gençlerbirliği, finding the net for the fourth consecutive game. Kayode’s goal played a crucial role in their 1-1 draw with Ankara Keçiörengücü, showcasing his consistency and goal-scoring prowess abroad.
