Ekiti Police Apprehend Suspect in Double Murder of Monarchs

The Ekiti Police Command has announced the arrest of Alhaji Baboga, a suspect implicated in the murder of two traditional rulers in the Ikole Axis of Ekiti on January 29, 2024. Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in Ekiti, Dare Ogundare, disclosed this during a press briefing in Ado-Ekiti. Ogundare highlighted the collaborative efforts of security agencies in capturing the suspect, who was apprehended in a forest between Ayedun and Ayebode.

According to Ogundare, Baboga confessed to the crime, and authorities are currently pursuing his accomplices. Although no arrests were made during the operation to rescue abducted school pupils and teachers, additional suspects were apprehended at various locations, including Oke Osun in Ikere Ekiti, Igbo Okah, and the Iju-Ikere boundary forest.

When questioned about ransom payments for the release of the Emure abductees, the police emphasized their stance against such practices. The Nigeria Police reiterated their commitment to discouraging ransom payments and praised the Inspector General of Police and the Ekiti State governor for their prompt intervention in securing the safe release of the school pupils and their teacher.

During the press conference, Baboga, the suspect linked to the killing of the Ikole traditional rulers, allegedly admitted his involvement in the crime.
