Ibrahim Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has conveyed his strong belief in the Super Eagles’ capability to secure victory in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Gusau specifically highlighted the influential role of Victor Osimhen, whom he regards as the continent’s premier player, as a pivotal factor in Nigeria’s status as formidable contenders for the championship.
In an interview with news men, Gusau expressed optimism about the team, placing emphasis on the emerging players who are making noteworthy contributions to their European clubs. He underscored the talent and potential of these players, stating, “We have upcoming and talented players who are excelling in their European clubs and are poised to carve a significant mark for themselves.”
While praising Osimhen’s prowess, Gusau acknowledged that the striker is yet to secure an AFCON title. The Super Eagles, led by manager Jose Peseiro, are scheduled to kick off their AFCON campaign against Equatorial Guinea at the Alssanne Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, on Sunday, January 14.
