AFCON: Osimhen’s Participation in Semi’s Uncertain as Super Eagles battle South Africa

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen’s participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final against South Africa remains uncertain after failing to accompany the team from Abidjan to Bouake. Nigeria is set to face South Africa in the first semi-final of the competition on Wednesday in Bouake, vying for a spot in Sunday’s final.

According to a statement from the Super Eagles media team, Osimhen will remain under observation in Abidjan while the rest of the squad travels to Bouake. The team is scheduled to fly from Abidjan to Bouake via an Air Cote d’Ivoire flight on Monday night.

The statement revealed that Osimhen is experiencing abdominal discomfort, prompting the decision for him to stay behind for monitoring. A member of the medical team will remain with him in Abidjan to oversee his condition closely.

Should Osimhen be cleared by Tuesday morning, he will rejoin the squad before 5 pm ahead of the crucial semi-final clash against South Africa. Osimhen has been a key player for the Super Eagles, featuring in all five matches in Cote d’Ivoire and contributing with one goal and one assist.
