The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Sir Monday Uko, has passionately motivated the Ibom Angels, the state’s female football team, to reclaim their top-flight status. Addressing players and officials at a meeting with football stakeholders, Uko emphasized the significance of commitment and urged the team to strive for victory in the upcoming Nigerian Women Championship.
Expressing optimism in the team’s potential, he believes that with dedication, Ibom Angels can make a triumphant return and regain their position in the top tier.
Uko called on sports enthusiasts to support the team and emphasized the importance of unity, cautioning against divisive tendencies and entitlement mentalities that could impede the club’s success. The Head Coach of Ibom Angels, Mr. Edwin Okon, assured the Commissioner of plans to bolster the team and play with determination to achieve positive results. Additionally, Uko conveyed messages to other state-owned teams, reiterating the government’s commitment to sports development and encouraging players to maintain professionalism and respect for authorities.
Looking ahead, Uko discussed the future of Akwa United FC, particularly after its performance in the 2023/2024 NPFL Season. He urged players to remain focused on upcoming games. During the meeting at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) pledged continued support for Akwa United, Dakkada, and Ibom Angels FC.
He advocated for regular interface meetings to facilitate suggestions, recommendations, and idea implementation, aiming for the overall improvement of sporting activities in Akwa Ibom State.
