In a tragic incident that unfolded in Sagamu, the nerve center of Sagamu Local Government Area in Ogun State, a prominent member of the Akarigbo-in-Council, Chief Abiodun Folarin, met a gruesome end last Monday night at the hands of suspected gunmen.
Chief Folarin, formerly the Bashorun Akarigbo and Baasegun Itunsokun community in Sagamu, fell victim to the assailants, who, numbering three, arrived at his residence in Itunsokun around 10:45 p.m. in a Toyota Camry.
The killers created an atmosphere of terror by firing shots into the air, causing alarm among the residents before proceeding to execute their targeted subject. Shockingly, the assailants did not seize any valuables, leaving the scene promptly after fatally shooting Chief Folarin. Two unnamed traditional rulers confirmed the tragic assassination, expressing their reliance on law enforcement agencies to unravel the perpetrators behind this heinous act.
The unsettling event prompted a sense of unease in Sagamu, leading to the swift closure of the local government secretariat by concerned workers fearing potential violence. Though speculation circulates regarding the motive, with some suggesting cult involvement, details remain scarce.
Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, labeled the incident a pure assassination, assuring the public that investigations are underway, with the Sagamu Area Commander taking charge to bring the culprits to justice.
