Southern Kaduna: Nom Bajju Cultural Festival Returns after 18-Years Insecurity Induced Hiatus

The Nom Bajju, an annual cultural festival of the Bajju people in Zangon Kataf local government area of Kaduna state, was celebrated in Zonkwa with grandeur on Sunday. This marked a significant occasion, as it had not been observed since May 2005, primarily due to the prevailing instability and security challenges that created apprehension in the region.

Hon. Francis Sani Zimbo, the chairman of Zango Kataf local government area, spoke with our correspondent during the festival, affirming that the event symbolized the gradual return of relative peace and stability to the area after more than a decade of challenges.

He emphasized the tireless efforts of his administration in achieving this milestone, which earned him national recognition as a Peace Ambassador from the Peace Academy of Management and Administration (PAMA).

During the festival, Professor Jerry Gana, a former Minister of Information and guest speaker, urged the people of Southern Kaduna to embrace creative thinking and strategic engagement for the sustainable development of the region. He expressed optimism that the community’s deep love for God would lead to the transformation of their land, encouraging them to work, organize, invest, partner strategically, govern wisely, and seek solutions for community peace to ensure a prosperous society.

The chairman of the occasion, former governor of Kaduna state, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, highlighted the essence of the ceremony as a showcase of culture and the sustenance of unity among the Bajju people.

He acknowledged the historical excellence of the Bajju people in positions of responsibility and expressed gratitude to the Bajju Community Development Association (BADA) for bestowing upon him the honor of being inducted into the ‘Bajju Hall of Fame.’
