Delta State: Asagba of Asaba Calls for Official Integration of Traditional Rulers into Governance to Tackle Insecurity Crisis

The Asagba of Asaba, HRM Obi (Prof) Chike Edozien, has issued a call for official rolesExpressing deep concern over prevailing insecurity issues, HRM Obi Edozien calls for a comprehensive constitutional review to seamlessly integrate traditional rulers into the local government structure.

Highlighting the historical neglect of traditional rulers in the formal governance architecture since colonial times, the monarch advocates for a return to the principle of indirect rule. He believes that merging constitutional local government with the traditional institution will lead to development and permanent solutions to insecurity challenges.

Additionally, HRM Obi Edozien addresses growing suspicions and tensions among ethnic groups, proposing autonomy for different nations within Nigeria and drawing parallels with the European Union’s cooperative model.

Amidst concerns about ethnic conflicts, the monarch suggests establishing a department or faculty of nation-building in Nigerian universities. This proposed initiative aims to study and understand ethnic relations, providing insights to effectively address frictions arising from multifaceted interactions.

HRM Obi Edozien’s comprehensive vision underscores the need for a harmonious integration of traditional institutions into the nation’s governance fabric for lasting solutions to Nigeria’s security challenges.
