Ritual Killing: NIS Demand Enhanced Safety Measures after Clandestine Murder of Survey Technician

The Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of a survey technician in the Moniya area of Ibadan by suspected ritualists. The NIS, in an official statement released yesterday, expressed its shock and outrage at the barbaric act.

Despite the victim not being a registered surveyor or an NIS member, the organization expressed deep sympathy for the victim and his family, particularly considering the horrifying nature of his murder, involving beheading by heartless criminals suspected of committing the crime for ritualistic purposes.

In the statement signed by the state Chairman, Lamidi Abiodun, the NIS called for improved security measures, especially in the bushy areas where surveyors carry out their work. The organization urged the government to provide adequate security for its members throughout the state, emphasizing the need for a safe working environment.

Additionally, the NIS called on security agencies to collaborate with community leaders in enhancing security around these areas. They emphasized the importance of publicizing contact phone lines and communication channels of security agencies, enabling residents to easily report suspicious activities and provide information that could aid in crime prevention and the arrest of criminals.

The NIS in Oyo State stressed the urgency of addressing the security concerns faced by surveyors, highlighting the necessity for swift action to prevent such heinous crimes in the future.
