Former Nigerian midfielder Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha in a recent statement expressed his belief that Victor Osimhen is a deserving candidate for the CAF Player of the Year award. The prestigious accolade is set to be announced at an event scheduled for December 11 in Morocco, where Osimhen finds himself among the favorites.
Competing against formidable contenders such as Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, and former Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez, Osimhen’s outstanding performances for Napoli have positioned him as a strong contender for the individual honor.
During a Bundesliga media round table, Okocha conveyed his perspective on Osimhen’s candidacy, emphasizing the striker’s consistency throughout the last season. According to Okocha, Osimhen’s noteworthy contribution was pivotal in leading Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years, a campaign in which he netted an impressive total of 26 goals.
Okocha’s endorsement adds further weight to Osimhen’s claim for the CAF Player of the Year title.
