Anambra State: Criminals Burn Down Monarch’s Residence, Kidnap Ex-Governor’s Driver

The palace of Igwe Emmanuel Nnabuife, the traditional ruler of Isseke Community in Anambra State, in a distressing incident fell victim to suspected gunmen who set it ablaze. The town, situated on the border with Orsu local government area of Imo State, has faced security challenges over the past three years.

Igwe Nnabuife expressed bewilderment at being targeted, stating that he had no conflicts within his community that would warrant such an attack. Despite the loss of his home and possessions, he expressed gratitude that no lives were lost in the arson.

Simultaneously, in another unfortunate event in Isseke, the former driver to late Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju was reportedly kidnapped shortly after his brother’s funeral. The gunmen, known for demanding payments before allowing events to proceed in the area, allegedly seized the driver after he failed to meet their demands following his brother’s burial ceremony. Identified as CY, the driver remains in captivity, with the incident highlighting the pervasive security challenges faced by residents in the region.

Confirming the arson, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, assured that the police have initiated an investigation into the incident. He reported that no loss of life had been documented, and the full extent of property damage is yet to be determined.

The PPRO emphasized ongoing efforts to gather information from eyewitnesses in the vicinity, promising to provide further details as the investigation progresses.
