Ekiti Female Deputy Gov. Intervenes in Community’s Anger, bid to Depose “Accused” Ayegunle Monarch

In Ayegunle Community of Ijero Local Government Area, Ekiti State, tensions arose as kingmakers and youth sought to depose Oba Johnson Aderiye, the Alayegunle of Ayegunle Ekiti, citing various grievances including alleged abuse of power and financial mismanagement.

The Ekiti State Government intervened, led by Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, urging adherence to chieftaincy traditions and swift resolution of disputes. Key demands included the withdrawal of court cases and the payment of outstanding stipends to chiefs.

The embattled monarch, Oba Aderiye, denied all accusations, claiming the crisis stemmed from attacks on his palace by youths aligned with estranged kingmakers. He defended his appointments, stating they had the approval of relevant parties. The situation escalated with arrests made by police, further fueling tensions within the community.

While the kingmakers and chiefs accused the monarch of tyranny and financial impropriety, appeals for reconciliation came from prominent figures including the paramount ruler, Oba Joseph Adewole, and neighboring monarchs. Calls were made to prioritize unity and development over personal grievances, emphasizing the importance of forgiveness and collaboration for the progress of the town.

The intervention by the Ekiti State Government and appeals for peace highlight the significance of traditional governance structures and the need for constructive dialogue in resolving conflicts within communities. Efforts to address grievances and promote reconciliation are essential for restoring stability and fostering progress in Ayegunle Community and beyond.
