The Edo state government has called on the federal government to embrace the truth in Governor Obaseki’s comments, which he faulted President Tinubu’s palliative plan.
The commissioner for communication and orientation Chris Nehikhare while addressing the issue in Benin city, said the Edo state government would not succumb to the federal government stand against the truth.
In his words, “It is unfortunate and sad that the Federal Government now wants to gag citizens, and even a popularly elected governor from speaking truth to power, expressing himself in the light of the perilous times we have fallen
into.” Recall that Edo State governor Godwin Obaseki earlier this month, while addressing the aggrieved workers in the state asked the organised labour – the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) – to reject the palliatives being proposed by President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government.
Governor Obaseki who made the call threw his full support to the labour unions’ nationwide protests against the Nigerian government over fuel subsidy removal, fuel price hike, school fees hike and other anti-poor policies by the government, while describing the proposed palliative as a “Fraud”.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has been advised to introduce new policies with a human face and shun policies that will continue to make the rich richer and the poor poorer.
