PEPT: September 16th Fixed for Final Ruling on the Outcome of 2023 Presidential Election amids Suspicions of Judicial Compromise

The Election Petition Tribunal has fixed September 16th, 2023, as the date for the final ruling on the outcome of the 2023 Presidential Election. The date for the much-awaited judgment was reportedly set by a five-member tribunal headed by Justice Haruna Simon Tsamani.

The tribunal is expected to deliver judgment on the three petitions lodged by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) together with their presidential candidates, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi and Chichi Ojei.

The plaintiffs are challenging the results put forward by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), that led to the declaration of APC Presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 Nigeria presidential election.

As Nigerians anticipate the outcome of the final ruling by the Presidential election petitions tribunal, different bodies and citizens have cautioned the PEPT not to deliver a judgment that will lead to chaos in the country.
