Ogun State Monarch issues Formal Apology Following Naira abuse Scandal

Oba Kolawole Sowemimo, the Olu Owode-Egba in Obafemi Owode Local Council of Ogun State, has issued a formal apology to the Federal Government following public outcry over a video in which he allegedly abused the naira.

In the viral video, Oba Sowemimo was seen creating a long rope of N1,000 notes, which he then placed around the neck of popular Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal during celebrations for his wife’s birthday. The act received widespread criticism on social media.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), acting on behalf of the Federal Government, expressed its concern by sending a letter to the monarch, warning him of the potential legal consequences, including imprisonment, for the act of naira abuse.

In response to the NOA’s letter, Oba Sowemimo expressed regret for his actions and pledged to refrain from similar behavior in the future. He attributed his actions to being carried away by the excitement of his wife’s birthday celebration. The monarch acknowledged the need for sensitivity in handling currency and affirmed his commitment to upholding responsible conduct.
