Rivers State: Ogoni Constituents Launch Recall Moves against Incompetent, Self-serving Lawmakers

Constituents hailing from the four local government areas within Ogoni land have initiated the recall process for four lawmakers representing these regions in the Rivers State House of Assembly. The identified legislators are Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol, Barile Nwakor of Khana Constituency 1, Aforji Igwe representing Eleme, and Bernard Ngba representing Tai Constituency.

Solomon Lenu, the Convener of Ogoni Development Drive (ODD), shared this development during a press briefing at the official launch of the recall register in Port Harcourt on Thursday. Lenu emphasized that the lawmakers in question had allegedly neglected their primary responsibilities by engaging in political activities with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Highlighting their proactive approach, Lenu mentioned the acquisition of a comprehensive voters’ register for all constituents in the four local government areas and constituencies. Additionally, an electronic capture form has been implemented to streamline the petition process, particularly for students on various campuses.

The initiation of the recall process comes after the lapse of a seven-day ultimatum issued to the four lawmakers, urging them to apologize to Fubara and the Ogoni people who elected them. Lenu expressed determination to pursue the recall procedure diligently, regardless of the potential duration it may entail.
