Police have confirmed the arrest of 10 suspects over the murder of Ms Atanda Modupe Deborah, a 200-level Nursing student of Federal University, Oye Ekiti, The deceased, who was declared missing within the school premises on 5 September, was found dead in a shallow grave at a distance of about 30 meters behind the nursing lecture hall, according to a police statement issued by its spokesperson, Abutu Sunday.

However, the spokesperson for the Ekiti Police Command DSP Sunday Abutu said 10 suspects have already been arrested in relation to the murder of Deborah. While appealing for calm over the murder of the student, Abutu said Ekiti Commissioner of Police, Mr Ogundare Dare had directed for thorough investigation to unearth the identity of the killers of the FUOYE student and their prosecution.

Dare enjoined anyone with useful information concerning the incident to visit Oye Divisional Police Headquarters, Oye-Ekiti or the State CID. He added that those with useful information could also call 09064050086 or 08053499199.

The Student Union Government of FUOYE had in an earlier statement denied insinuations that the body of Deborah was found dead with her eyes plucked out.

In a statement signed by Ajayi Dotun Emmanuel and Akuraku Kofoworola Elizabeth, President and Public Relations Officer respectively, the Students Union Government bemoaned the death of the student while demanding that her killers must be identified.

“The cause of death and manner in which she died is a cause of great pain to the entire student populace in FUOYE. As we say our goodbyes to a precious and bright student such as Modupe, members of the FUOYE Students Union Government (FUOYESUG), visited the morgue and we were able to confirm to everyone that no part of her body was mutilated, contrary to claims and rumors flying around.

“We can confirm that no less than 12 people have been arrested in connection with the crime and we will not rest until the perpetrators are brought to justice.

“While we mourn her sudden loss and pay our last respect to the dead, we hereby charge every security operative in Ekiti State to investigate and bring the perpetrators of this grave crime to book.

“A team comprising of the Students Union executive would pay a condolence visit to the parents and loved ones to show support to the family at this trying time.

“We pray God in his infinite mercies to grant the departed soul eternal rest and give us the fortitude to bear the loss. We demand justice!!!,” the statement partly reads.
