Kwara State: Surge in Foreign Nationals Raises Concern amid Security Tensions

Kwara’s branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced concern about the increasing number of foreign nationals in the state. This situation, the party claims, may be linked to the recent aggressive messages from Niger Republic to Nigeria, a fallout from the ECOWAS threat to retaliate against the latter due to a coup d’etat.

The PDP alleges that these foreign individuals have been seen participating in various activities like Okada riding, begging, and vegetable farming across the state. According to a statement released by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tunji Moronfoye, this situation might pose a security threat to the peace of residents if not promptly addressed.

The party has called on the Kwara All Progressive Congress (APC) administration, led by Governor Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to take necessary steps. The PDP urged the governor to initiate registration and regulation of these individuals, possibly in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Services

The PDP further appealed to Governor Abdulrazaq to prioritize governance, security issues, and the welfare of residents. The party reminded that his role as the Chairman of the Nigerian Governor’s forum (NGF) should not distract him from his primary responsibilities to the state.
