The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide criticized Kogi State traditional rulers for opposing an investigative panel on the Ajaokuta Steel Company and the National Iron Ore Mining Company, Itakpe. Initiated by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Senate’s decision to probe alleged irregularities in these entities was met with resistance from the Ebira Area Traditional Rulers Council.
The motion, spearheaded by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, underscored the potential of these companies to drive Nigeria’s technological and industrial advancement. Despite decades of government intervention, both Ajaokuta Steel and NIOMCO have remained non-operational, prompting the need for a thorough investigation. The youth council reiterated that these assets belong to all Nigerians and should not be subject to regional interests, emphasizing the importance of holding accountable those responsible for their neglect.
Expressing disappointment in the traditional rulers’ opposition, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council asserted that the Senate’s decision was long overdue. They stressed the need for transparency and accountability in revitalizing these national assets, dismissing any attempts to shield economic saboteurs.
