Anambra Monarch, Igwe Ezekwesili vexed by Press Reports of Intimidation, Seeks Redress

The traditional ruler of Awba-Ofemili community in Awka-North Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Royal Majesty Igwe Ezekwesili Maduagwuna, Igwe Chukwuchili Awba-Ofemili 1, has announced his intention to take legal action against journalists for publishing false information regarding alleged incidents in his community.

Igwe Ezekwesili emphasized that the said journalists failed to contact him for his perspective before disseminating the inaccurate reports, which included claims of arson and collaboration with the Deputy Governor to intimidate residents using Fulani Herdsmen

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the defamation, Igwe Ezekwesili stressed that his community enjoys peace and progress under his leadership, citing developmental projects and positive feedback from residents. He denounced the allegations as baseless and harmful to his reputation as well as that of the Deputy Governor. The monarch asserted his right to a fair hearing and criticized the lack of professionalism displayed by the journalists involved.

Furthermore, Igwe Ezekwesili highlighted ongoing disturbances caused by certain individuals within the community, attributing fabricated accusations and disruptions to their actions. He mentioned instances of wrongful imprisonment and the coercion of farmers, while reaffirming his commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Awba-Ofemili.

In addition to addressing the false allegations, Igwe Ezekwesili commended the support of governmental authorities and stakeholders in advancing development initiatives in the community. Despite challenges posed by detractors, he expressed optimism for the future and emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among community members.
