Aba Power Ltd, a subsidiary of Geometric Power, is set to commence commercial operations ahead of schedule, delivering power to consumers in the Aba Ring-fenced Area this weekend, two weeks earlier than initially planned. Directed by Chairman Professor Bart Nnaji, a former Minister of Power, the company’s engineers are tasked with ensuring reliable power supply to the community.
The Geometric Power 188 Megawatt thermal plant, along with Aba Power, is poised to distribute electricity to nine out of the 17 local government areas in Abia State. The facility’s first turbine was activated just 24 hours prior to the commissioning ceremony.
Upon commencement of commercial operations, one of Geometric Power’s three turbines, built by General Electric, is expected to supply 47MW of power to the area, nearly doubling the current supply from the national grid. Engineer Cliff Eneh, an energy consultant, anticipates the second turbine will further bolster supply to meet Aba’s energy demands and enhance stability in the region.
The success of Geometric Power’s integrated electricity group model has garnered attention from stakeholders, including Neimeth Pharmaceuticals Plc, which plans to relocate its manufacturing plants to Aba once electricity conditions improve.
Federal Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu has expressed interest in closely monitoring Geometric Power’s performance, signaling potential for it to serve as a blueprint for revitalizing Nigeria’s power sector.
