The Abia State government has established an administrative panel of investigation to evaluate the previous administration’s recognition and issuance of staff to some traditional rulers past May 9, 2023. The panel, which was inaugurated by Uzo Nwachukwu, Abia State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs, is chaired by Magistrate Uche Uwanuakwa Uche (retd), while Chuka Agomo will act as secretary.
The panel also includes the chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Linus Nto Mba, as well as the second deputy chairman, Eze Franklin Nwosu, and Mr Dominic Chimbo.
Uzo Nwachukwu, who inaugurated the panel at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Umuahia, Abia State, stated that its purpose was to investigate litigations and problems that had arisen in some communities in the state following the recognition and issuance of certificates of office to some traditional rulers.
According to the commissioner, the panel of inquiry will also investigate why staff and certificates were purportedly turned over to two traditional rulers. The panel will also investigate charges that some of the individuals who obtained credentials and office personnel were not chosen by their people as kings.
Nwachukwu said that the panel has two months to conclude its assignment and submit its reports to the state government. He advised the members of the administrative panel to carry out their jobs with integrity and cautioned them against victimizing anybody in their assignments.
Responding to the commissioner’s charge, the chairman of the panel, Uche Uwanuakwa Uche, who spoke on behalf of the panel’s members, promised that they would do diligent work.
