Osun State: Alara Olaojo Family Appeals for Review of Oluponna Selection Process

The Alara Olaojo royal family of Oluponna in Osun State has urged the state government to reconsider the selection of Abdulrafiu Oyekanmi Mosobalaje Bamgboye from the Moosa family as the Oluponna. They expressed dissatisfaction over what they perceive as an aberration in the installment process and called for adherence to the established rotational system between the Moosa and Alara Olaojo families.

Emphasizing the traditional arrangement, where kingship alternates between the two chieftaincy families, the Alara Olaojo family asserted their historical precedence as the first settlers and kings of the community. They highlighted their concern that the recent selection deviates from this established protocol, as the immediate past monarch was from the Moosa family, and the new appointee also hails from the same lineage.

Prince Ariyibi Waliu Sunday, representing the Alara Olaojo family, criticized the selection process, citing alleged irregularities and the involvement of an individual already under suspension. He underscored the importance of upholding the integrity of the chieftaincy system and preventing its disruption.
