Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the senator representing Abia North Senatorial District has weighed in on the recent victory of Nigeria’s Super Eagles over the Lions of Cameroon in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. Despite Nigeria’s 2-0 win securing their spot in the quarter-finals, Senator Kalu expressed a nuanced view, acknowledging the team’s efforts while also highlighting areas for improvement.
In a video posted on his official Facebook page, Senator Kalu in his assessment commended certain players such as Ekong, Lookman, Osimhen, and Frank Onyeka for their exemplary performance during the match. However, he voiced disappointment over what he perceived as a lack of tactical diversity, particularly in the team’s offensive strategy.
Senator Kalu suggested that the team’s coach, Jose Peseiro, could have employed a more varied approach by fielding two strikers instead of solely relying on Victor Osimhen. He argued that such a tactic would alleviate pressure on Osimhen, who attracts significant defensive attention due to his global recognition.
Furthermore, Senator Kalu emphasized the importance of nurturing local talent by advocating for the inclusion of a second striker from the national league.
