Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo has extended forgiveness to traditional rulers who breached their code of conduct by conferring titles without due process. The reconciliation took place during a meeting at the Government House in Awka, attended by 94 traditional rulers, including Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha.
The traditional rulers pledged support for Soludo’s administration, expressing a commitment to contribute to the transformation of Anambra into a prosperous homeland.
During the meeting, Igwe Achebe sought resolution on issues surrounding the suspension of some traditional rulers and urged a cessation of controversies. He indicated a willingness to address additional concerns in a subsequent forum, particularly focusing on the welfare of traditional rulers. Chris Aburime, Soludo’s Press Secretary, conveyed the traditional rulers’ desire to collaborate with the government beyond the recent disputes.
Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs, Hon Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, reassured the traditional rulers of the government’s high regard for them. He acknowledged concerns about the composition of the Traditional Rulers’ Council, assuring that the government was actively addressing these issues.
Governor Soludo emphasized the meeting’s purpose as fostering collaboration among stakeholders for the successful implementation of his Solution Agenda for 2024. Aburime highlighted the improper constitution of the Traditional Rulers Council, noting a violation of relevant laws, and emphasized the need for lawful procedures in decision-making.
