Cross River State: Fire Engulfs Steadyflow College of Education Complex

In a regrettable incident, the academic complex of SteadyFlow College of Education in Akparabong Community, situated within the Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State, fell victim to a devastating fire yesterday. The destructive flames laid waste to academic facilities valued at millions of naira; however, mercifully, no lives were lost in the unfortunate event.

Reports indicate that the fire gained access to the school premises when a passerby inadvertently discarded a cigarette filter near a bush in close proximity to the perimeter fence. Eyewitness Ada Agbor explained that what initially started as a bush fire soon escalated, infiltrating the school grounds and causing substantial damage to its infrastructure.

Hon. Jones Tangban, the founder of SteadyFlow College of Education and a former National Assembly member representing Boki/Ikom federal constituency, attributed the incident to the perilous practice of indiscriminate bush burning. Tangban earnestly called upon the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to extend their assistance to the beleaguered institution.

Expressing gratitude that there were no casualties, Tangban emphasized the urgent need for support from both state and federal government agencies. The destruction of facilities at the college has not only inflicted a considerable loss but has also impacted the institution’s ability to resume normal operations.

Tangban fervently appealed for prompt intervention to aid in the recovery and rebuilding efforts.
