Anambra Monarchs Seek Cultural Resurgence as Countermeasure for National Insecurity

In the recent Ofala Festival of the ancient kingdom of Ojoto in Anambra State, stakeholders gathered to emphasize the importance of cultural revitalization as a solution to the prevailing insecurity in the nation. Led by the traditional ruler, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu, the week-long festivities saw the participation of esteemed dignitaries, including the Obi of Onitsha and former Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige.

The Ofala festival, as highlighted by Igwe Mbamalu, stands out for its ability to unite people, foster cultural preservation, and instill a spirit of community development. The monarch emphasized its positive impact on the region, citing developments such as road construction, empowerment initiatives, and arts exhibitions.

Expressing concern over the encroachment of Western culture and its correlation with rising societal vices, Igwe Mbamalu asserted that embracing and preserving indigenous culture is crucial in addressing the escalating insecurity plaguing the nation. He contended that the festival has transformed the community into a vibrant hub of commercial and economic activities.

During the event, chieftaincy titles were conferred upon individuals, recognizing their significant contributions to community development. Notably, Senator Ngige, bestowed with the title of ‘Ogbuwaluzo’ of Ojoto, emphasized the pivotal role of culture in national development.

Reflecting on the festival’s broader significance, Ngige also voiced concerns about the increasing insecurity nationwide, attributing it to alleged misappropriation of security votes by some state governors.
