Military Recruitment: Kaduna 20, 259, Anambra 541; Ohaneze Decries Dangerous Disparity for Eastern Region amid Disinterest from Igbo, Southern Youths!

  • The sinister militarization of the eastern region with extortionist roadblocks, the unhealthy domination of the north in politics, with systemic cornering of all sensitive federal positions, begets its genesis from here- Ekpo

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, represented by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President-General, expressed deep concern on Monday about the lack of interest displayed by Igbo youths in joining the military and paramilitary forces.

Chief Iwuanyanwu voiced his dismay during a statement to journalists in Enugu, urging Southeast governors, religious leaders, traditional rulers, community heads, and other stakeholders to address this issue.

He highlighted the significant disparity in online applications for the Police Force, citing Kaduna State’s leading position with 20,259 applications, while Anambra State lagged behind with only 541 applications. Other states in the region, such as Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, and Enugu, also showed low numbers of applications.

Chief Iwuanyanwu emphasized the importance of encouraging Igbo youths to consider careers in the Nigeria Police Force, emphasizing that it offers a unique pathway to becoming senior police officers in the future. He called upon prominent figures in the Southeast, HRH Ambassador Lawrence Agubuzu, and leaders of various Igbo groups, to utilize their influence and structures to raise awareness and motivate Igbo youths to participate in the ongoing recruitment exercise.

This call from Ohanaeze Ndigbo underscores the need for proactive measures to address the disinterest among Igbo youths and ensure their active participation in the nation’s security forces, fostering a sense of responsibility and contribution to the country’s safety and stability.
