New Yam Festival: Obi of Onitsha Celebrates Igbo Heritage in UNN

His Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, has commended indigenous students from Anambra State at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) for their efforts in upholding and promoting the rich Igbo culture and customs.

Achebe, serving as the Grand Patron of the Anambra People’s Assembly (APA) at UNN, expressed his appreciation during the inaugural New Yam Festival held by the Anambra indigenes based in Nsukka this Tuesday.

The Obi of Onitsha underscored the significance of the new yam festival, stating that it’s a key celebration in the Igbo society, given the deep reverence accorded to yam by Ndigbo.

He further highlighted that yam, being a staple crop cultivated across all parts of Igboland, has multifaceted culinary uses.
