The former academic from the University of Port Harcourt, High Chief Seiyefa Koroye, has been declared the Pere-elect (future monarch) of the Tarakiri Clan. This development comes after an intense election held in the Ebedebiri Community, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, as reported by The Tide.
Chief Koroye, also the Chairman of the Tarakiri Clan Council of Chiefs and Elders, won the election to replace the late HRM King Richardford Orukaribai Koroye. High Chief Ayakeme Whiskey, the electoral committee Chairman, announced the result, revealing that Koroye had secured 45 votes out of 93 in the initial round.
However, no winner could be announced after the first ballot, as none of the candidates, including HRH Famous Eseduo and High Chief Kemi Prefa, could secure the required 50 percent of votes. The second round of voting saw Koroye and Eseduo go head-to-head after Prefa’s elimination, resulting in Koroye’s victory with 63 votes.
Whiskey applauded the delegates for their peaceful conduct throughout the election, stressing its fairness and transparency. Similarly, Deputy Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, The Rt. Hon. Michael Ogbere, commended the process and urged the Tarakiri people to welcome peace and unity under the new leadership.
In response to his victory, the Pere-elect pledged to unify the clan and foster progress through wide consultations, collaborations and partnerships.
