Oyo Government, Monarchs Begin Anti Illegal Mining Initiative after Ibadan Deadly Explosion

Traditional rulers from various geopolitical zones in Oyo State have expressed their support for the state government’s efforts in combating illegal mining. The monarchs conveyed their endorsement during a press conference held at the Governor’s Office after a closed-door meeting with the governor.

Among the prominent traditional rulers present were the Soun of Ogbomoso, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye Orumoghege III; the Olubadan of Ibadan, represented by Oba Tajudeen Ajibola; Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola; Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi; Onpetu of Ijero, Oba Sunday Oyediran; Olu of Igboora, Oba Jimoh Olajide Titiloye; Akibio of Ilora, Oba Steven Oyeniyi, and others.

Governor Makinde, addressing the media during an on-the-spot assessment of an explosion in Ibadan, attributed the incident to the storage of explosive devices by an illegal miner. He assured the public that every effort would be made to bring the culprits to justice and provide support for the victims.
