Yemi Alade Demands “African Solutions” in Fiery Call on Insecurity

Popular Nigerian singer Yemi Alade, stirred debate on 19 November 2025, tweeting: “Please we need African solutions to African problems, Not a new problem.” The call came in response to a user who urged her to tag foreign leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, in her post — a suggestion she firmly rejected.

Alade used her platform to urge citizens to speak up and demand accountability from African leaders. Her firm stance — “not a new problem” — highlights concern that external interference may exacerbate local issues rather than solve them.

Born to a Yoruba father and an Igbo mother, Alade draws on her multicultural heritage, blending Afropop, highlife, and R&B in her music. Since her breakout hit “Johnny” in 2014, she’s become an international star, winning multiple MTV Africa Music Awards and earning a Grammy nomination for her song “Tomorrow.”
