Southern Kaduna Festival 2023 Commences with Honors for Distinguished Leaders

The Southern Kaduna Festival 2023 commenced today, marking its inaugural edition as a platform to honor distinguished individuals for their significant contributions to the region’s development. Rear Admiral Fergusson Dukas Bobai (retd), the chairman of the Central Planning Committee, revealed that the awards aim to recognize both past and present leaders who have played pivotal roles in shaping Southern Kaduna.

The festival, themed ‘Experience Unity, Celebrate Culture,’ spans from December 28 to 30 and includes diverse activities such as sporting events, a beauty pageant representing 57 ethnic nationalities, and other competitions. The Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, inaugurated the opening ceremony, emphasizing the celebration of unity in diversity.

Notable figures to be honored with the Southern Kaduna Grand Commander (SKGC) award include Major-General Zamani Lekwot (retd), General Martin Luther Agwai (retd), and Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah. Posthumous SKGC recipients include the late Ibrahim Yakowa and Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed.

Additional awardees, such as former Governor Ahmed Mohamed Makarfi, Colonel Jafaru Isah, and Hon. Machu Bulus Gwall, will receive the Southern Kaduna Citizen’s Award (SKCA). The commendation extended to Governor Uba Sani for his commitment to inclusivity underscores the event’s significance in fostering unity across the state.
