Oyo State: Ogbomosho Court Remand Monarch, 14 Others over Alleged Land Grabbing

The Oyo State High Court in Ogbomosho has taken decisive action, remanding the Oloko of Oko, Oba Solomon Akinola, and 14 others at the Abolongo Correctional Centre. The charges against them include alleged continuous violent attacks, attempted murder, and involvement in land grabbing activities within Surulere Local Government.

The individuals remanded alongside the monarch are Chief Sunday Aderinto, Chief Jimoh Asimiyu, Timothy Aderinto, Matthew Akintaro, Rafiu Ganiu, Adejare Adeleru, Samson Ogunmola, Zachiaus Adeleru, Kamorudeen Ajibade, Raji Rasaq, Mutiu Arowosaye, Oyeyemi Oyelekan, Olusegun Oyelekan, and Sheriff Adio. These allegations have brought them before Justice K. A. Adedokun for a continued hearing of the charges.

The court’s decision to remand the defendants follows a report by the state counsel, Mr. I. O. Abdulazeez, highlighting another violent attack on the complainant, Dr. Isaac Abiodun, at Aagba village. Expressing disapproval of Oba Akinola’s apparent inability to maintain peace, Justice Adedokun emphasized that such actions contradict the warnings given during the initial proceedings on November 16, 2023.

Given the severity of the situation, the judge opted for the defendants’ remand and scheduled the next hearing for November 27, 2023. This adjournment will allow for the consideration of their bail applications and further legal proceedings.
