Ooni calls for Community Policing after Fulani Terrorists Kill Ekiti Monarchs

The recent ambush and tragic killing of two monarchs in Ekiti State, the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti and the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, has drawn condemnation from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.

Serving as the Co-Chairman of the National Council Of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN), the Ooni expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased monarchs and the affected communities. He emphasized the need for thorough investigations by both state and federal authorities to ensure justice for the victims and to apprehend the perpetrators.

In a press statement, the Ooni decried the attack as a deliberate challenge to Nigeria’s security capacity. He highlighted the broader implications of such heinous acts, stating that the assassination of traditional rulers not only destabilizes communities but also undermines the nation’s unity and peaceful coexistence. The Ooni called for decisive government action to arrest the culprits and bring them to justice, emphasizing the urgency of strengthening security measures nationwide.

Echoing his concerns, the Ooni stressed the immediate necessity of implementing community policing as a proactive measure to address escalating cases of violence, including kidnappings and killings.

In solidarity with the people of Ekiti State and all victims of terrorist activities across the country, the Ooni extended heartfelt sympathies and called for collective efforts to combat insecurity. He concluded with a solemn tribute to the departed monarchs
