Obi of Onitsha Accuse Yakoubu Mahmood’s led INEC of Fueling Nigeria’s Insecurity

During the 22nd Ofala festival, the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Igwe Nnemeka Alfred Achebe, criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its handling of the 2023 general elections.

He blamed INEC for the protests and unrest that followed, emphasizing that transparent, free, fair, and credible polls were essential, given the substantial resources at INEC’s disposal.

The Obi highlighted the country’s dangerous situation, encompassing political, economic, security, and social challenges. The Obi expressed concern about the uncertainties arising from the Presidential election, which faced legal challenges up to the Supreme Court, with civil society organizations’ plans for extended civil disobedience against INEC’s lack of transparency.

He also pointed out the country’s continued insecurity issues and economic hardships, were worsened by strange FG,s policies like the unilateral removal of fuel subsidy without adequate strategies.

In the South East, the aftermath of the elections and complex security situations, involving various actors, worsened due to the sinister activities of kidnappers, political thugs, and unknown gunmen.
