“I am A Clean Athlete” – World Record Holder, Tobi Amusan Reacts to Missed Drugs Testing Violation Charges

  • Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan holds the world record in womens 100m sprint hurdles

Nigeria’s world reigning champion and record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles event, Tobi Amusan has reacted to drug violation charges by the Athletics Integrity Unity (AIU).

According to the AIU, Tobi is reported to have missed three drug tests in a year. Under the AIU athletics rules, three missed tests are taken as failed drugs test and can lead to a two-year ban from all World Athletics and Olympic competitions.

In a statement on Twitter, the AIU said the charge will be heard by the Disciplinary Tribunal and determined before the World Athletics Championships. In reaction to the charge, Amusan vowed to resolve the charges against her before this year’s competition, which will take place in Budapest next month.

She took to her Instagram handle to say,

“(July 19, 2023) Today the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has charged me with an alleged rule violation for having 3 missed tests in 12 months. I intend to fight this charge and will have my case decided by a tribunal of 3 arbitrators before the start of next month’s World Championships.

“I am a CLEAN ATHLETE, and I am regularly; (maybe more than usual) tested by the AIU- I was tested within days of my third “missed test.” I have FAITH that this will be resolved in my favor and that I will be competing at the World Championships in August. In the meantime, I ask that the media respect my privacy while I address these allegations in my upcoming arbitration.”

Fans of the Nigerian track Queen are downcasted by these allegations and are hopeful for a positive turnaround, as they await further developments.
