Navy Arrests 2 Waring Cult Leaders in Akwa Ibom Oil Community

Two suspected cult leaders have been apprehended by the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FoB) in Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, amidst escalating tensions in the oil-bearing coastal community. The clash between rival cult factions, namely the Red Skin and the Baggas, has stirred unrest within the community.

Paraded at the Base, the suspects were handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), Akwa Ibom Command, for further investigation and potential prosecution, as announced by the Commanding Officer (CO), Capt. Uche Aneke. The arrests, which took place on March 17, 2024, were prompted by reports of ongoing hostilities between the two cult groups in Ibaka Community.

Capt. Aneke disclosed that one of the apprehended individuals was found in possession of a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, and a machete, underlining the severity of the situation. He condemned the disruptive influence of cultism and issued a stern warning against engaging in criminal activities within the Base’s jurisdiction.

Upon receiving the suspects and seized weapons, a representative of the DSS, Mr. Abe Sunday, pledged thorough investigation and assured due diligence in the prosecution process should the suspects be found guilty.
