In Ilorin, Kwara State, escalating religious tensions between Arab religion adherents and Isese, an African traditional religion, have been further fueled by the recent arrest of an Isese leader, Madam Efunsetan Abebi Aniwura Olorisha, also known as Iya Osun. The arrest came after a complaint lodged by Sheikh Okutagidi, a prominent Muslim figure in Ilorin.
Iya Osun had previously alleged that Okutagidi once sought her spiritual help, which he has publicly denied. Her arrest has sparked outrage among Isese followers, who see it as a violation of her fundamental rights and are demanding an immediate and impartial investigation. They have called upon authorities to secure her immediate and unconditional release.
Alhaji Shakiru, a Muslim blogger also known as “Kajue Baba,” confirmed the event. The Kwara State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, however, claimed to be unaware of the arrest.
In a related incident, an Osun priestess was reportedly warned by a Muslim group against organizing an Isese festival in the state. The group claimed to be emissaries of Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Emir of Ilorin
