- The vandals allegedly attacked for several hours without any federal security personnels in sight
In the north-western region of Nigeria, terrorists targeted and killed Haruna Abale, the traditional ruler of Kukar Babangida, Jibia local government area, Katsina State, along with nine other residents, including his son, Idris Haruna.
The assailants initiated their assault at the monarch’s official residence, where they fatally attacked him, his son, and four others. The community leader in Kukar Babangida suggested that the attack appeared premeditated, with a focus on eliminating the outspoken and critical monarch. The terrorists not only claimed lives but also set ablaze several houses, vehicles, and shops in the community.
The assault, commencing around 1:00 a.m., persisted for several hours, leaving a trail of devastation. The monarch’s son recounted the harrowing experience, detailing how the terrorists locked him and his friends in a room before carrying out the ruthless killings. Simultaneously, indiscriminate shootings by the attackers resulted in the tragic deaths of four residents who attempted to flee their homes.
The Jibia Local Government Chairman, Bishir Sabiu, and the state police command spokesperson, Abubakar Sadik, confirmed the grim incident, noting that nine individuals lost their lives, and five vehicles were burnt.
Security forces have been mobilized to restore order, and efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act in Kukar Babangida village—one of the areas most affected by terrorist activities in the region, linking Katsina metropolis to Marabar Jibia.
The escalation of terrorist attacks has been a concerning trend in the north-west of Nigeria, particularly in Zamfara and Katsina States, since December of the preceding year.
