Imo State Labour Party Exposes Alleged Criminal Election Rigging Plot by Governor Uzodimma

  • N5 billion will be allegedly spent on renting all hotels in Owerri from November 4 to November 11, for APC thugs to manipulate the scheduled governorship

The Imo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has strongly accused Governor Hope Uzodimma of planning to rig the upcoming November 11 governorship election in the state. The accusation was made during a press conference in Owerri, the state capital, where the party expressed its concerns about the state government’s actions.

LP’s Imo State Chairman, Calistus Ihejiagwa, addressed the media, condemning the arrest and brutalization of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, in Owerri. Ihejiagwa stated that Uzodimma was cracking down on opposing voices, including union leaders, journalists, and activists. He emphasized that Ajaero’s arrest highlighted the governor’s desperation for re-election.

Ihejiagwa further alleged that the state government planned to spend N5 billion to rent all the hotels in Owerri from November 4 to November 11. According to the LP, this large expenditure was part of a scheme by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to employ thugs to manipulate the scheduled governorship election on November 11.

The LP demanded the immediate redeployment of security agents’ heads in the state before the polls, claiming that the current security chiefs displayed bias in favor of Uzodimma. Calistus Ihejiagwa condemned the governor’s policies as discriminatory, divisive, dictatorial, and violent, stating that they oppressed and dehumanized workers and citizens alike.

The party highlighted previous incidents, including the destruction of Ikenga Ugochinyere’s home in Akokwa, Ideato North LGA, the abduction of journalist Nonso Nkwa, and the tragic loss of lives, including those of traditional rulers, in the past three and a half years.

LP called on security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and federal authorities to take immediate action to prevent any attempts to disrupt or compromise the crucial election in Imo State.
