The news was confirmed by Drogba on social media, where he wrote, “I am not used to discussing my private life, but due to speculation in the media today, I can confirm that sadly, after ten years together, Lalla and I have decided to separate peacefully.”
Drogba went on to request privacy for himself and his family during this difficult time. “We remain very close and our main goal has been our children and to protect them and the privacy of the family,” he added.
Drogba and Diakate, who is of Malian descent, have three children together. The couple had been together for over a decade before tying the knot in 2011, and their wedding was attended by a host of celebrities and football stars, including John Terry, Salomon Kalou, and Florent Malouda.
