Benue State: Police Rescue Kidnap Victims, Apprehend 18

The Benue State Police Command successfully rescued two individuals from the clutches of kidnappers and apprehended a total of 18 suspects, including a tax collector, in the Logo Local Government Area. The incident unfolded at Mchia Market on November 23 when terrorists targeted and abducted two traders.

Upon receiving prompt information about the kidnapping and subsequent threats to the abducted traders, the Benue State police swiftly executed a rescue mission. The operation focused on the compound of Zaki Tule Nyam, identified as a tax collector in the area.

The victims, who were held captive, revealed that their families were given a one-week ultimatum to secure N10 million as ransom for their release before the police intervention.

Following the operation, Zaki Nyam and 17 other suspects were taken into custody for further investigation. Among the items recovered during the arrests were a Dane gun and machetes, highlighting the potential danger posed by the apprehended individuals.

In response to these events, the state police spokesperson, SP Sewuese Anene, emphasized the need for cooperation from the residents of Logo LGA. The Commissioner of Police urged the community to actively support the ongoing investigation by providing valuable information to the police teams deployed in the area.

This collaborative effort is crucial for maintaining security and ensuring a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping and subsequent arrests.
