Abia Government, Monarchs Get Proactive, Urge Igbo Youths to Join Military, Police Force

Abia State Government has expressed concern over the lack of enthusiasm among youths participating in the current police recruitment exercise. The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, issued a statement highlighting the significant underutilization of the state’s allocation in the ongoing recruitment process.

Furthermore, approximately 700 invited candidates have yet to attend the scheduled interviews. In response to this, Governor Alex Otti has instructed mayors, traditional rulers, and community leaders to mobilize their youths promptly to ensure the fulfillment of the state’s quota.

Governor Alex Otti emphasized the importance of Abia’s active involvement in all facets of Nigeria’s socio-political and economic life. He urged local government mayors, Traditional Rulers Council chairmen, and Presidents-General of town unions to encourage their youths to participate in the recruitment exercise. The governor also called on the invited candidates who have not attended the interview to approach the Commissioner for Information and Culture for clarification. He provided contact details for further assistance.

Senator Emman Nwaka, the former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State, lauded Governor Otti’s initiative. He expressed concern about the disinterest of Abia youths in military and para-military recruitments. He proposed the introduction of incentives to attract youths and recommended the engagement of retired servicemen to enlighten them about the benefits of serving.

The Senator also emphasized the need for proactive measures to ensure that Abia remains actively involved in national undertakings despite the country’s ethnic and religious diversity.
