The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN and current Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi 11, made headlines recently when he castigated leaders of northern Nigeria for being deceptive and greedy.
The 14th Emir of one of west Africa’s symbolic cities, Kano, went on to query the culture of lashing out and attacking sexual minorities, aka LGBT,s, whilst the actions of corrupt government officials inflict real time damage on the lives of Nigerians and the nation as a whole
The intellectual emir, who hardly mince words, stirred the hornets nest whilst giving a virtual Ramadan lecture.
He said people observe prayers and fast but keep committing evil “because our hearts are not Islamic”.
Sanusi hinted that a governor of a Sharia-implementing state in Nigeria syphoned funds meant for the state and bought a hotel in Lagos. He stated the said state, was the “most serious example of backwardness”.
He further added that if leaders were forced to be accountable to resources handed them, they would not be reckless with it
“On Social order and Ibadah, you know when our hearts are not good, our deeds will not be good,” Sanusi said.
He continued: “How do you explain that you have this external religiosity and then you have so much injustice? And that’s why I say the obligations of the heart are far more important than those of the body.
“Greed, selfishness, wickedness, envy. These are much greater sins than zina (illegal sexual intercourse), homosexuality, and gambling. The sins of the heart are greater than the sins of the body. We are focused so much on the external things.
