Rivers State: MOSOP Condemns assault on Ledor Community and Monarch, Calls for FG’s Response

Former President of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), Legborsi Pyagbara strongly condemned the recent violent assault on Ledor community in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, where the deputy paramount ruler, Chief Nule Yarakor, was critically injured by unknown assailants.

Ledor, a community previously displaced during the General Sani Abacha military regime in 1994, has struggled to recover fully, with returning exiled citizens facing intermittent attacks, culminating in the recent incident over the weekend.

Pyagbara, also the Executive Director of African Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development, addressed the media in Port Harcourt, urging authorities to intervene in the ongoing security challenges faced by Ledor community. He pointed out the need for an impartial investigation by the state police into the attacks, stressing the gravity of the situation and the necessity for action to prevent further violence.

Expressing concern for the victims, particularly Chief Monday Yarakpo and others wounded in the recent attack, Pyagbara appealed to the Rivers State Government to ensure they receive adequate medical attention. Despite efforts to obtain a response from the Rivers State Police Command, including calls and text messages to the Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, no official statement has been issued at the time of this report.
