The Super Eagles’ preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire have officially begun, marked by the opening of their camp in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Seventeen players, including prominent names such as captain Ahmed Musa, Alex Iwobi, and Victor Boniface, have assembled for training.
Among the early arrivals are Kenneth Omeruo, Moses Simon, Leke Ojo, Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Ademola Lookman, Joe Aribo, and Frank Onyeka. The list also includes Bruno Onyemaechi, Zaidu Sanusi, Chidozie Awaziem, Bright Osayi Samuel, and Raphael Onyedika.
The first training session, scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, January 3, 2024, will be led by the coaching staff, headed by Jose Peseiro. Their objective is to ensure that the players are in optimal condition for the upcoming tournament.
While some players are already in camp, key figures like Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze are expected to join later today or early on Thursday. Nigeria, placed in Group A alongside Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and hosts Ivory Coast, is set to kick off their campaign against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, January 14.
