An urgent plea has been made to Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to intervene in a potential crisis in Nanka community ahead of their New Yam Festival this weekend.
The Nanka community, located in Orumba North Local Government Area, has been marked by numerous conflicts, and locals fear this event could trigger more unrest.
Residents of Agbiligba, a village within Nanka, claim that a few powerful individuals are attempting to inappropriately install a leader for the Ozor title holders, thus violating the due process. They have requested Governor Soludo’s immediate intervention to prevent possible violence.
Nze Chinedu Ezeozue, the Legal Advisor to the Nze na Ozor group of Agbiligba village, warned of a crisis during the New Yam Festival unless the governor steps in. He accused former lawmaker, Hon Okwudili Ezenwankwor, of trying to position his uncle, David Ezenwankwor, as Isi Nze, a move that could lead to a confrontation.
Ezeozue shared a letter sent to Governor Soludo stating their determination to resist any attempts to recognize Ezenwankwor as Isi Nze. The letter reveals that Okwudili Ezenwankwor, in collaboration with HRH Igwe Godwin Ogochukwu Ezeilo, is accused of disrespecting Nanka community’s traditional laws and customs.
The President General of the community, Mr Ifeanyi Ezike, has assured that measures are being taken to address the situation. Echoing this sentiment, Hon Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Matters, stated that the Soludo administration has successfully resolved several community conflicts and would do the same for Nanka.
However, attempts to reach Okwudili Ezenwankwor for comments on the allegations against him have not been successful.
