Osun State Governor Presents Staff of Office to New Owa of Igbajo, calls for Resourcefulness

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially bestowed the staff of office upon the newly appointed Owa of Igbajo, Oba Ademola Makinde, emphasizing the imperative of unity within the town’s community. Oba Makinde assumes his role following the removal of Oba Adegboyega Famoodun, who was installed as Owa of Igbajo during the tenure of the previous governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, on November 25, 2022.

Famoodun, a former chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the state, alongside Oba Olalekan Akadiri, the Akinrun of Ikirun, and Oba Raphael Oluponle, the former Aree of Iree, were directed to vacate their positions shortly after Adeleke’s inauguration as governor on November 27, 2022. This action was prompted by a White Paper issued by the government, which invalidated the processes that led to Famoodun and Oluponle’s appointments and called for a fresh selection process for new monarchs in the respective towns.

Following his selection by warrant chiefs appointed by local authorities, Oba Makinde’s appointment as the new Owa of Igbajo was ratified by the State Executive Council during its meeting on March 11. At the ceremonial presentation held at the Owa of Igbajo Palace, Governor Adeleke charged the newly appointed monarch to prioritize the growth and development of both the town and the state. He urged Oba Makinde to rally his subjects towards contributing their quota to the state’s development while fostering peace and harmony with neighboring communities.

In his address, Governor Adeleke emphasized the government’s expectation of maximum cooperation and support from the new monarch and the entire community. He stressed the importance of living in peace with neighbors, fulfilling tax obligations promptly, and upholding the principles of good citizenship.
